FCT Minister Nyesom Wike promised to complete at least 10 major infrastructure projects in Abuja before the 2027 general elections.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has promised that at least ten big road and building projects in Abuja will be fully completed and opened before the 2027 general elections.
The minister gave this strong promise on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while going round the capital city to inspect major construction sites.
During his working tour, Wike visited the Tungan Madaki Zuba road project and the Nile University road site to see the work being carried out by construction workers and engineers.
He praised the builders for working fast and promised that the government will pay them their money on time.
The main reason for the site visits is to check if building companies are keeping their promises to finish work on time.
Many of these big road projects were started during the third anniversary celebrations of the federal capital government.
Minister Wike explained that completing these key roads will stop heavy traffic, help food trucks move easily into the city, and make life better for all residents living in Abuja.
At the same time, the minister ordered government teams to break down illegal houses blocking water channels in areas like Maitama to stop heavy rain from causing flood disasters in local neighborhoods.
During the visit to the Tungan Madaki Zuba road, engineers confirmed that 5 out of the 6 big concrete water bridges have been built, with the main contractor promising to hand over the finished road by December.
Expressing great trust in the ability of the construction company to deliver quality work on schedule, the minister praised the workers on site.

Speaking directly about the skills of the construction company, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated that “they have the capacity. I mean, they are not a new company. They have the capacity, they have the equipment. What’s important is if you have the equipment, and they have the equipment as part of capacity. So, they’ve been tested before now, so I have so much confidence in them”.
Reassuring construction companies that government will clear all outstanding bills to avoid any work delay, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike added that “on our part, we will not take it for granted that they are committed to the realization of the project. We will do our own part to pay them their money,” while stressing that “we are also visiting some other two projects tomorrow, believing that by the end of the year, we would have had up to 10 projects, as promised, lined up for commissioning before the general election”. Taskforce teams have also started removing illegal car parks and business stalls built on government green areas.
