Fresh attacks by suspected bandits have left communities in Kano State on edge, with residents reportedly killed and prominent local figures targeted in separate incidents.
According to Daily Post, the latest attacks occurred in different communities across the state as security concerns continued to grow. The incidents reportedly involved killings and an abduction, adding to fears among residents in affected areas.
One of the attacks occurred in Rantan community, located in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State. Suspected bandits reportedly invaded the community and killed Alhaji Garba Buba, the All Progressives Congress chairman in Rantan Ward.
Another resident was also reportedly killed during the attack. The incident has raised fresh concerns because Buba was a local political leader with a direct connection to the community. The attack reportedly came shortly after another violent incident in Chiromawa community, located in Garun Malam Local Government Area.
According to reports, gunmen invaded Chiromawa at about 11pm on Saturday. During the attack, they reportedly abducted Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano.
Three people were reportedly killed in the Chiromawa attack, while several others sustained injuries. The latest violence has increased anxiety in communities around the area, particularly those close to the boundaries with Katsina and Zamfara states.
The attacks have left many residents worried about what could happen next. People living in the affected communities are now calling for better security, especially at night when many of these attacks are reported to happen.
Buba’s death has also shocked people in Rantan because he was not only a political figure but also a familiar face in the community. His killing has added to the fear among residents who already feel exposed to attacks in their area.
For now, residents are waiting for more information from the authorities. They also want security agencies to find those behind the attacks and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Meanwhile, the reported abduction of the traditional title holder has further intensified calls for stronger security measures. The latest incidents come amid continuing concerns over bandit attacks and kidnapping across parts of northern Nigeria.
For residents of the affected Kano communities, the immediate priority remains the safe return of those abducted and improved protection against further attacks.
