PDP candidate Iliasu sued his party and INEC over claims his signature was forged to secretly withdraw him from the election.
A political candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, known as Iliasu, has taken his political party and the Independent National Electoral Commission to court over serious claims of signature forgery and unlawful candidate substitution.
The legal case was officially filed at the Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a major disagreement inside the state chapter of the party.
Iliasu, who successfully won the official party primary election to represent his constituency, discovered that his name was secretly removed from the official list of approved candidates submitted to the electoral umpire.
The main reason why the politician rushed to court is to stop what he calls a criminal attempt by party leaders to steal his election mandate through back door tricks.
According to court papers filed by his legal team, some high ranking party officials allegedly forged his personal signature on fake withdrawal letters and affidavit forms.
These forged documents were then submitted to electoral officers in Abuja to claim that he voluntarily stepped down from the race.
Iliasu stated that he never signed any document giving up his candidacy, never received any payment to step aside, and remains fully prepared to contest the upcoming election under his party’s banner.

Explaining the painful betrayal and demanding full legal justice, the candidate shared his side of the story through formal legal filings.
Refusing to accept the fake withdrawal letter submitted in his name, Iliasu stated that “I did not sign any withdrawal letter, nor did I authorise anyone to sign on my behalf or submit any document to INEC indicating my withdrawal from the race”.
Calling on the court to protect his political mandate and punish those behind the act, the aggrieved politician added that “this is a clear case of forgery and fraud aimed at shortchanging the mandate given to me by the party delegates”.
Reporting on the political legal battle, independent news reports confirm that the candidate wants the judge to declare all documents submitted for his replacement null and void.
The court suit also asks the electoral body to recognize only his name as the constituency’s authentic candidate.
