NYSC sets September 8 to 12, 2026, for foreign trained graduates to physically show their certificates and passports.
The National Youth Service Corps, which many people simply call NYSC, has told all young Nigerians who studied in universities outside Nigeria that it is time to check their school papers.
The management of the scheme announced this decision so that they can see the real certificates of these foreign-trained students face-to-face before sending them to work or giving them exemption certificates.
This special checking exercise will start on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and it will end on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The officials of the scheme made this announcement on their official X page.
They said in the post that “the verification exercise is scheduled to be held from Tuesday, September 8, to Saturday, September 12, 2026.”
This message is meant for all Nigerian students who went to school in other countries like Ghana, the Benin Republic, the United Kingdom, or any other nation, and have finished their registration on the internet portal. The government wants to make sure that no person uses fake results or fake passports to enter the national service.
To make things easy for everybody, NYSC picked nine different locations across Nigeria where students can go to show their papers.
These places include big cities like Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Osogbo, Bauchi, Port Harcourt, Yola, and Sokoto. Every student must check their personal profile on the internet portal to print out a slip. That slip will show the exact place, day, and time each person should go.
Reports from Punch Newspaper and educational updates on MySchoolGist explain that students must bring their original school certificates or official statement of results.
They must also bring the international passport they used when travelling abroad to study. NYSC wants to check the pages inside the passport to see the rubber stamps that show the exact day the student left Nigeria, and the day they returned after finishing school.

For those who studied medical courses like doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, the rules are a bit stricter. They must come with their professional practice license and registration papers given to them by the official medical boards in Nigeria.
The leaders of NYSC strictly warned that nobody should skip this step or send a friend to do it for them. They stated clearly that “only persons who are physically seen with their credentials, physically verified and cleared will be deployed, exempted or excluded from National Service.”
If a student fails to show up at the venue during these 5 days, the person will not be allowed to join the next set of youth corps members.
Everyone who studied abroad is advised to gather all their original documents, put them neatly in a file, and arrive at their chosen center early on their assigned date.
