Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what she described as the impressive Abuja makeover under his leadership.
According to daily post,She said Wike’s efforts to improve the nation’s capital would not go unnoticed. According to her, history will remember him for changing the face of Abuja and creating a cleaner environment.
The First Lady spoke during an event that celebrated environmental projects carried out by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. She applauded the minister for giving neglected public spaces a new look through the ongoing Abuja makeover.
Tinubu singled out the renovated Abuja City Gate for special praise. She said the transformation showed what determined leadership could achieve within a short period.
“When I saw what he did with the City Gate, I was amazed. He has done very well. Posterity will judge you well for the development of the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.
She explained that the Abuja makeover supports the goals of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Nigeria Challenge. The programme encourages communities to turn abandoned spaces and dumpsites into parks, gardens and other green areas.
However, Tinubu expressed disappointment that no state entered the Community Category of the competition despite the ₦50 million prize on offer. She urged governors’ wives to mobilise young people to join environmental clubs and take part in projects that promote a cleaner Nigeria.
In his response, Wike thanked the First Lady for recognising the administration’s work. He said her encouragement pushed the FCT Administration to improve the city’s appearance and create more beautiful public spaces.
The minister recalled that Tinubu challenged officials to make Abuja compare favourably with modern cities around the world. He added that the government remains committed to sustaining the Abuja makeover through more environmental and recreational projects.

Wike also announced plans to expand similar projects to other parts of the capital, including the Lifecamp area. He said a clean and attractive environment remains important for residents and visitors alike.
