A wave of Russian ballistic missiles and drones has killed at least 14 people and injured 22 others in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as Ukraine says civilians are increasingly bearing the brunt of the war.
At least 14 people have been killed and 22 others injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian officials said.
The assault began shortly after midnight on Wednesday, with air raid sirens sounding across the capital for more than an hour as waves of ballistic missiles and drones struck residential areas and other civilian sites.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the region had once again come under a massive attack.
“The enemy is once again massively attacking the Kyiv region,” Tkachenko said as emergency crews responded across multiple districts.
According to officials, nine people were killed in the Boryspil district, four in Bucha and one in the Fastiv district. At least 22 others were wounded, with Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko saying four victims were in critical condition.
Emergency workers continued searching damaged buildings amid fears that more people could be trapped beneath the rubble.
“The enemy is once again deliberately striking civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Kyiv’s military administration said in a statement.
Russia has not commented on the latest strikes.
The attack comes as fighting between the two countries continues to intensify. In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, while Ukraine has expanded long-range strikes inside Russia.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian drones reportedly hit warehouses linked to Russian online retailer Wildberries in the Moscow region, where Russian officials said five people were killed and 10 injured. A day earlier, authorities also blamed a Ukrainian drone strike for killing seven people and injuring dozens at a beach in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
Ukraine has condemned separate footage circulating online that appeared to show a civilian being chased by a drone in the southern city of Kherson, describing it as a deliberate attack on civilians.
Both Moscow and Kyiv continue to deny intentionally targeting civilians, despite mounting casualties on both sides.
Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its Western allies for more US-made Patriot air defence systems, saying they remain its most effective protection against Russia’s growing use of ballistic missiles.
