Tension Rocks Delta APC Meeting as Aspirants Oppose Alleged Endorsement of Ashakah

A meeting involving leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State was reportedly thrown into confusion after some House of Assembly aspirants protested the alleged endorsement of a fellow aspirant, Ashakah.

The incident happened during a gathering of party stakeholders where discussions were being held ahead of the party’s primary election. Trouble started after claims emerged that certain party leaders were backing Ashakah for the House of Assembly ticket before the primary process.

According to reports from Saharatv, the development angered other aspirants who accused party leaders of attempting to impose a candidate on members of the party. The aggrieved aspirants reportedly interrupted the meeting and demanded explanations over what they described as an unfair endorsement.

Heated Arguments Break Out

Witnesses said the atmosphere became tense as supporters of different aspirants exchanged words during the meeting. Some of the protesting aspirants insisted that every contestant should be allowed to participate freely in the primary election without interference or favoritism from party leaders.

The angry aspirants were also said to have warned that any attempt to force a candidate on party members could create serious division within the APC in Delta State.

Party leaders reportedly tried to calm the situation as arguments continued among those present at the meeting.

Concerns Over Internal Democracy

The incident has raised fresh concerns about internal democracy within the Delta APC as preparations for future elections continue.

Some party members believe that endorsing a candidate before the primary election may create distrust among aspirants and supporters. Others warned that unresolved disagreements could affect the unity of the party ahead of the polls.

Despite the disruption, consultations among party leaders and aspirants are expected to continue in an effort to reduce tension and avoid further crisis within the party.
