There was fear and confusion in Iluke community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, after gunmen reportedly kidnapped a medical doctor and his wife in the early hours of Friday.
Residents said the attack happened around 1 a.m. when many families were already asleep.
According to people in the area, the gunmen quietly entered the community before heading straight to the couple’s home in the Okebukun area.
The victims, popularly known in the community as Dr. Ebi and his wife, were reportedly dragged out of their house at gunpoint and taken away by the attackers.
Witnesses said sporadic gunshots were heard during the operation, forcing residents to remain indoors out of fear.
By sunrise, the entire community had been thrown into panic.
Many residents described the incident as heartbreaking, especially because the doctor was said to be someone who attended to people in the area and was widely respected by locals.
“This has left everybody scared. People could not sleep again after hearing what happened,” one resident said.
Some community members said kidnapping incidents have become increasingly worrying in that part of Kogi State, with many families now living in fear of possible attacks.
The latest incident has also raised fresh concerns about the safety of rural communities, as residents called on security agencies to urgently rescue the victims and strengthen security in the area.
As of the time this report was filed, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to officially react to the abduction.
