Veteran Hollywood character actor James Handy, known for roles in Jumanji, Logan, and Top Gun: Maverick, has died at the age of 81 after being fatally stabbed outside his home in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles. Police say the suspect is the son of Handy’s girlfriend, who later confessed to the attack.
Authorities say the incident happened on Wednesday morning when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at the residence.
When police arrived, they found Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.
According to law enforcement, the suspect 44year old Michael Gledhill lived at the home with his mother and Handy. He was arrested at the scene after allegedly flagging down officers and identifying himself as the attacker.
A chilling detail from the investigation emerged from the emergency call itself. During the 911 call, the suspect reportedly told dispatchers: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, with investigators still working to establish a motive.
Police have described the incident as isolated, adding that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
