Fear spread across Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State after suspected bandits launched a midnight attack on the area, targeting the police station and the Emir’s palace.
According to reports, the attackers invaded the community in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically and causing residents to flee for safety. During the attack, parts of the Emir’s palace were reportedly set on fire, while about 10 residents, including women and children, were abducted and taken to an unknown location.
The gunmen also attempted to overrun the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters, but security operatives on duty were said to have repelled the attack after a gun battle.
Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident and said investigations and rescue operations had already begun to track down the attackers and rescue the kidnapped victims.
The latest assault has added to growing security concerns in parts of Kwara State, especially communities close to the border areas, where residents have continued to face repeated attacks by armed group.
