Nigeria has been hit with another tragic loss following reports that retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died after being held captive by bandits.

The former military officer and his wife were abducted on May 30, 2026, in Katsina State while travelling through the Matazu area.

According to reports, heavily armed bandits intercepted their vehicle and took the couple away. Their driver was reportedly shot during the attack but managed to escape.

News of the retired general’s death has sparked sadness among family members, friends, former colleagues, and many Nigerians who knew him for his years of service to the country.

Major General Abubakar, who once served as Director of Defence Information, was widely respected within military circles.
