Famous American singer D4vd lost his team of high profile private lawyers right before his big murder trial. The unexpected legal change happened on Monday, August 31, 2026, during a court meeting in Los Angeles, California.
The 21 year old musician, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, appeared before the judge to say once again that he did not commit the crime.
During the court meeting, top celebrity lawyer Blair Berk and her team stepped away from defending him. Because his high priced legal team walked away, the court appointed a free government lawyer from the Los Angeles Public Defender’s Office to take over his defense.
The main reason why this court change is making big headlines is that D4vd is facing very serious charges over the death of a 14 year old girl named Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Police say the young girl went missing before her body was found hidden inside a car linked to the singer. Prosecutors claim the singer harmed the young girl and tried to hide the crime.
While it is still not completely clear why the famous lawyers stopped working for him, court officers explained that the singer went through financial checks and qualified to get a government defender paid for by the state.

Even though his famous legal team stepped down, the legal battle moves forward. The judge refused to delay the hearing and ordered the case to move to the next stage, with another court update set for October.
Speaking about their sudden decision to step away from the case, the outgoing legal team released a short message explaining that the court agreed to their request.
Defending their choice to leave, former lawyer Blair Berk and her colleagues stated that “the judge granted our request to withdraw after finding that Burke qualified for a court appointed lawyer,” while adding that “we continue to support David and his defence against these serious charges”.
Taking over the job of defending the young singer, new court defender Walid Kandeel spoke about how his team will approach the heavy charges.
Offering words to the victim’s family while promising a fair trial, lawyer Walid Kandeel stated that “we recognise the loss of life underlying the allegations and extend our sympathies to those who are grieving,” while pointing out that “David Burke is entitled to a defence that takes his circumstances seriously and carefully examines the evidence”. Government prosecutors are ready to move forward with the trial regardless of who represents the singer.
