A 47-year-old man in France has been sentenced to six months in prison after threatening to behead a female primary school teacher who disciplined his son.
The incident unfolded in Le Fauga, a quiet village of about 2,600 people just outside Toulouse. According to local officials, the man was called into the school after his son was disruptive in class. When the child continued to misbehave after being moved to another classroom, the teacher reprimanded him.
In response, the father reportedly waited for the teacher outside the school and threatened to “cut off her head if she’d been a man,” according to Le Fauga Mayor Jean-Marie Puig.
Although the parent later apologized, the school filed a judicial complaint, leading to a fast-track hearing in Toulouse just six days after the event.
During the proceedings, the judge emphasized the gravity of the threat, explicitly referencing the 2020 murder of Samuel Paty, the French teacher who was brutally beheaded by an extremist after showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a civics class. The judge noted that such remarks were “particularly disturbing” given that the tragedy “remains fresh in the minds of all French people.”

While the Toulouse prosecutor had initially recommended six months of house arrest, the judge opted for actual jail time due to the severity of the actions. In addition to his prison sentence, the man has been ordered to complete a citizenship course and is legally barred from contacting the victim or approaching the school.
“I’m really not proud of myself,” the man reportedly told the court.
For educators across France, the ruling sends a clear message: threats of violence, especially those echoing the nation’s deepest traumas, will be met with the full force of the law. A classroom must remain a place of learning, not a battleground for parental frustration.
